It was a stormy, windy night ... But ISS students and parents braved the weather to attend our annual Literacy NIght. All the classrooms were open with Literacy games, activities and samples of writing. We learned more about Words Their Way, 6 Traits, Guided Reading and more.
Look on the book week page for pictures - which activity did you enjoy most?
Otto Fong came to visit ISS today. He talked about the connection between being a scientist and a writer. He talked about the format of his children's books (comics) and he quizzed our students about their knowledge of science and comics - they know a lot!
We have more pictures and a video on the Book Week page - please enjoy and hope to see you at Literacy Night - 6:00 - 7:30 tonight (Thursday, February 7, 2013)
"Real, live authors" - that's how librarian Susan Grant introduced our Book Week guest authors this year. Grades K1 right up to Grade 4 enjoyed presentations and insights on how books are created and completed. Grade 5 will have an author visit Thursday. See the Book Week page for more pictures and some video.
Adeline Foo with her illustrator demonstrate the writing/illustrating process.
Lansell Taudervin spoke with Grades 2 and 3. More pictures and video on Book Week page.
